Find out for yourself, and learn some great tips and techniques in the process, when you sign up for Erin Manning's Digital Photography 101 class! From megapixels to managing the light, your photographs will dramatically improve once you master these easy-to-understand lessons.
Erin is a professional photographer and DIY Network personality with a special knack for helping the photo beginner. In no time at all, she’ll have you taking pictures with your own creative flair and showing them off to your friends and family. They’ll be asking you how you did it!
This four-week class covers the very basics—from exploring your digital camera (compact or entry-level dSLR), to shooting in natural light, and fine-tuning your images with fundamental composition techniques.
The course includes video, motivational e-mail reminders, live video chats and more.

Class content is provided via weekly video lessons. You can access and watch the lessons at your leisure and download the PDF Quick Reference Guides for supporting information.
We begin by getting to know your camera and how to use it—everything from understanding megapixels, image resolution, and memory cards to learning how to make an exposure and control your flash.
The next step in the learning process introduces you to shooting in the basic zone modes—portrait, landscape, macro, sports/pets/kids, night scenes and video. From there, we progress to understanding light—how to find good light and manage its direction, quality, reflection, and diffusion.
The final lesson in this class introduces you to some basic composition techniques and principles—framing, line, scale, color, angle, etc. As a refresher when you need one in the future, a download of an on-the-go photo tips pocket guide for taking better pictures is provided.
