The Beginning class is suitable for everyone, even if you’ve never used Illustrator. Those who have some experience will find the class to be a great refresher of basic concepts and a chance to extend your skills with keyboard shortcuts, text tips, Global Swatches, Alignment, Layers, Exporting for Photoshop and more. It’s the first step in building a strong Illustrator foundation with Laura’s own working methods. You’ll learn by creating useful design elements in Beginning Illustrator that you can use in your own work.

Beginning Illustrator introduces the drawing tools in Adobe Illustrator: the shape tools, pen tool, pencil and brush. Essential Illustrator workflow concepts like artboards, stacking, grouping, aligning, layers and color swatches are covered. We work step by step creating design elements that employ the Pathfinder, Shape Builder and other tools. We’ll work with typography, outline type, the glyphs panel and methods for editing existing vector art. You’ll also learn how to export artwork in JPEG and PNG format and prepare your designs for use in the Photoshop & PS Elements workspace.

Illustrator 2 builds on the Beginning class with a focus on Gradients, Transparency, Repeat Patterns, and Live Trace, with a chapter on Photoshop Vector Smart Objects. In Illustrator 2, Laura shares even more of the tools and processes she uses daily in her professional work. You’ll unlock the creative possibilities in Adobe Illustrator, and emerge with a library of patterns and textures to use in your own work.

This 4-hour workshop is broken into 3 modules. Each module contains a central project designed to reinforce a complementary set of techniques. The projects build from one module to the next, helping you to synthesize the information into versatile Illustrator skills.
