Info
Ready to take your creations to the next level in Adobe Illustrator? Join Laura Coyle in the follow-up to her popular Beginning Illustrator class.
In this intermediate self-paced workshop you’ll learn techniques to bring added dimension to your artwork and enjoy exploring all you can do with this amazing vector program.
This 4-hour workshop is broken into 3 modules. The first module begins with a focus on gradients, the art of blending one color into another. Laura Coyle will demonstrate the how-to’s of working with Illustrator’s powerful Gradient Tool and guide you through a project using Gradients, Transparency, Blending Modes, Effects and the Appearance Panel. Combining these techniques will add dimension, depth and “pop” to your work.
The second module is an in-depth exercise in Repeat Pattern Fills, where you will learn to edit existing patterns and create your own library of Pattern Swatches from scratch. Become pattern-savvy and deepen your Illustrator knowledge as Laura introduces the tools, panels and methods that will make pattern creation and anything else you create in Illustrator more efficient and organized.
In the final module we investigate Live Trace with an eye toward capturing scanned textures and bringing them into Illustrator. You’ll emerge with inspiring textures you can modify and use over and over again in your artwork. Learn how to use images in Illustrator files, the three types of masking, and tips for working between Photoshop and Illustrator. Laura will walk you through a final project that combines all the techniques taught in Illustrator 2 to help you synthesize everything you've learned.

Adobe Illustrator CS3 or CS2
Gradients and the Appearance Panel were improved starting with version CS4, so users of earlier versions will notice some distinct differences or limitations in these areas. These are addressed in the lessons. Laura will teach alternate methods and provide further information in the PDF guide. CS2 is the earliest version of Illustrator compatible with this class.
