It’s the holiday season and definitely a busy time of year. But you can still stop, create and show someone you love how much they mean to you by creating darling cards made from scratch. In this tutorial I’ll show you how to make quick and easy custom-made cards for family and friends—hybrid style!
You can begin by downloading the source files for this tutorial. We’ll be making two hybrid cards. The first one is cool yet super simple to make. Here we go!
Card 1
Step 1.
Print out the holiday phrase stack and your polka dot patterned paper. (Print them on separate sheets of paper.)
Step 2.
Cut out the holiday phrase stack and cut off the excess at the ends. I used a decorative blade runner on the sides of my printout.
Step 3.
Crease both pieces in the middle and fold in half.
Step 4.
Sandwich the two and you’re set.
Easy! | |
Card 2
Step 1.
Print the card template, ribbon strips and ‘Thankful’ word art.
Step 2.
Cut out all the pieces.
For the template, use the light gray guide lines to cut out a window in the front of the card. I find using a craft knife and ruler is best for this.
For the ‘Thankful’ word art, cut it out leaving a tiny bit around the edges to make a ‘word sticker.’
Step 3.
Flip over the longer polka dot strip and mark a line 2.5 inches from each end of your strip.
Cut halfway down one line.
Flip and cut halfway down from the other line. (See the picture for a better understanding.)
Step 4.
Fold and intersect the cut lines like the example.
Step 5.
Fold in both ‘tails’ towards the loop and adhere with adhesive.
Step 6.
Take the smaller striped piece and put adhesive on one end, then create a circle loop and stick the two ends together.
You can then flatten the loop.
Step 7.
Add the striped strip to the top of the polka dot strip bow with adhesive down the middle.
Then, tie ribbon or string around the full ribbon bow to finish it off. (Push the loops of the ribbon in and up for more dimension.)
Step 8.
Put a little adhesive on the tip of the ‘Thankful’ sticker and tuck it in between the ribbons of the bow.
Put the bow on the back-inside of the card, taking care to center it with the window.
Finished! | |
A little note: play around. Spice it up with some stitches, handwriting, staples, glitter.…whatever you want! I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and until next time, Happy Scrapping!
