Tales of a Scrapbooking Groupie: The Great Adventure Part 2.1

It’s kind of odd to tell the story of this adventure in parts. However, in this case it feels better that way. As I mentioned in part 1 of my story of this great adventure, there was just too much that took place to tell the story in one post. For me traveling to Africa for the first time and visiting the continent from which the human race evolved was an amazing opportunity. Added to that was the powerful thought of setting foot on the continent from which so many of my ancestors were spirited away into slavery centuries ago. I knew that questions would be answered for me, but I wasn’t sure of what those questions were.

I must put the picture above at the beginning of this part of the story. Our very first tour in S. Africa was to Robben Island. During the tour we took a moment to speak one on one with the guide leading our group. His name was Thabo. His question to us was very simple … Is this your first trip to Africa? When we responded that it was, he looked at us, smiled, and simply said ‘Welcome Home.’  Whew!!  Words cannot express my feelings at that moment. The cork was off of the champagne. Now for the rest of the story. (more…)

Tales of a Scrapbooking Groupie: The First Big Adventure

During that time I’d gotten to meet and spend time with many talented industry personalities. It seemed that scrapbooking was booming everywhere. Imagine my feeling of total amazement and glee when Renee was invited to demonstrate digital techniques at the Scrapbook Expo during the Scrapbook Convention in Johannesburg, South Africa. From what I could gather, Scrapbook Convention was one of the most high energy shows anywhere, but for sure on the African continent. We would certainly find out, but for me what kept running through my mind was that “Renee was going international.”   (more…)

Tales of a Scrapbooking Groupie: Sorting Things Out

In the last installment of Scrapbooking Groupie, Renee had begun working as a contributing Editor for Simple Scrapbooks Magazine, and discussions were underway for a ‘How To’ book on digital scrapbooking, I was extremely pumped. Stacy Julian and the staff at Simple were totally supportive and very encouraging. The vibes were off the chart. The future was looking very bright.

Just when I thought it could not get any better, Renee was invited to go to Minneapolis be a part of something called Creating Keepsakes University (CKU). I was told that these events were a lot of fun, but I had no idea what we were in for. Once we entered the event hotel, it was clear that CKU took the spirit and passion I had observed at CHA to a totally new level. (more…)

Tales of a Scrapbooking Groupie: After Shock

My first CHA was nothing short of amazing, and quite exciting. There I was at a business show that felt more like a religious revival than a business show. I guess from a sensory perspective, I had nothing to compare this experience to. (more…)
