Obscure Photoshop Time-Savers

Anyone who’s taken a class with me knows how much I love keyboard shortcuts. I can’t stress enough how much of a time-saver they can be and have been for me. That’s why I’m happy to share a great post at Smashing Magazine (one of my fave online sites, by the way) that’s all about “obscure” shortcuts.

They cover shortcuts for Layers, Brushes, Quick Fill, Typesetting and Menus. But the ones that were new to me are the Blending Modes. I learned to cycle through blending modes or jump to a specific one by using just the keyboard. By pressing Option + Shift + (+) or Option + Shift + (-), you can cycle forward or backward through available modes. The folks at Smashing have thoughtfully included images of the key combinations, too!

Try incorporating these into your Photoshop workflow. My tip? Don’t try to memorize them all. Just use them naturally in your processes, instead of the mouse. You’ll be surprised how quickly you pick them up.

I’d like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a blessed Thanksgiving. We’re taking a long weekend. See you Monday!
